I am still reeling under the World Cup excitement....Woooohhhh what a game it was, what a nail biting finish, a picture perfect sixer hit by the skipper to seal the victory of the ICC World Cup 2011 and before we knew, the cup was ours!!!!!!
The feeling that came up was something which we would all cherish all through our lives. I had gone to my friend's place to watch the match and had a great time. We screamed, we jumped, we high-fived, we hugged, we shrieked (yes over the phone while speaking to our near n dear ones!). It was overwhelming to see the entire team dedicate the cup to the cricketing God, Sachin Tendulkar.
We all must have had a lump in our throats when we saw Yuvraj Singh cried, a sense of jubiliation alongwith the fireworks which were happening everywhere, the glittering presentation ceremony followed by the extra special CHAMPIONS team photo session.....this is what DREAMS are made of.
After the match we stepped out of our homes to celebrate the win, our hearts still pounding with sheer excitement and happiness. People were going crazy all over, they were screaming, laughing, shouting off the roof tops(quite literally, although it was more of a car roof top). All the public came out of their houses irrespective of their age, creed, gender, just to celebrate one mutual feeling of victory.
Never ever in my 27 years , have I witnessed such celebrations in a grand scale. Chantings of INDIA!! INDIA!!! were echoing all over, SRK must have had a lot of hiccups since CHAK DE had almost become an Anthem with all the car stereos playing it. We went to a closed sweet shop adjacent to a restaurant and demanded to open it up for us, as we wanted to celebrate in a traditional way, which of coursed we followed by a round of Ice scream interspersed with screams of INDIA, INDIA!!!!!
When I left my friends' place, the frenzy was reaching a crescendo, as a result of which there was a massive traffic jam everywhere. But was anyone complaining??Nah!!! even the Mamas( Traffic Policemen are affectionately called Mama in Mumbai) seemed to bask in the glory by giving a leeway to the number of persons occuping a car/bike.
From Kandivali to Bandra, a sense of unity, harmony and togetherness prevailed in the air. Not only the Mango Junta but the celebrities also came out on the streets for celebrating the nation's new achievement. This is PATRIOTISM at it best. This is the new India which is exercising the freedom of speech and expression. Hope we have reasons to celebrate like this more often.
